STARLUX Airlines has taken delivery of its second specially painted Airbus A350-1000 developed with Japanese artist Hajime Sorayama, completing a pair of silver and gold widebodies that will be used across the Taiwanese carrier's international network.
The latest aircraft, B-58554, arrived at Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport wearing the AIRSORAYAMA GOLD scheme. STARLUX said the aircraft will now begin what it calls a "World Tour," taking the distinctive livery to destinations across its network.

Its arrival follows the delivery of B-58553, the AIRSORAYAMA SILVER aircraft, in early July. The first jet was formally handed over at Airbus' delivery center in Toulouse on July 3 and entered commercial service on July 12.
The two aircraft are the result of a collaboration announced by STARLUX in January with Sorayama, a Japanese illustrator known for his highly detailed depictions of robots and other subjects with polished metallic surfaces.
Rather than simply applying conventional silver and gold liveries, the project required the development of finishes intended to reproduce Sorayama's characteristic metallic aesthetic on the much larger and technically demanding surface of an airliner.
Special colors named AIRSORAYAMA SILVER and AIRSORAYAMA GOLD were developed with the participation of Pantone, Airbus and aircraft-coatings specialist Mankiewicz. The schemes combine the metallic fuselage with STARLUX branding and artwork created specifically for the project.
Silver jet already flying
B-58553 has already appeared at several destinations since entering service. STARLUX sent the aircraft to Phoenix in July, making the Arizona city its first North American destination, and it has also been used on services to Tokyo and Prague.
The Tokyo appearance had another unusual element. STARLUX Chairman K.W. Chang, who is also a qualified pilot, flew the A350-1000 to Japan, where Sorayama met the aircraft and added his signature to the livery.

B-58554 now completes the collection originally announced at the beginning of the year. The aircraft had performed its first test flight before delivery and is the second consecutive A350-1000 to join the STARLUX fleet with a Sorayama-designed exterior.

The airline is gradually expanding its A350-1000 fleet for long-haul operations. The larger member of the A350 family complements STARLUX's A350-900s and is intended for some of the carrier's longer and higher-demand international routes.
Unlike a temporary promotional decal, the AIRSORAYAMA project was conceived around two actual aircraft deliveries. The silver and gold finishes therefore become part of STARLUX's operating fleet rather than being applied to existing aircraft solely for a marketing campaign.
