Lufthansa has revealed its first Airbus A350-1000 as the aircraft completed painting at Airbus' Toulouse facility ahead of delivery later this year. The jet carries a special blue livery celebrating the airline's 100th anniversary and will become the 700th Airbus delivered to the Lufthansa Group.

Registered D-AIFA, the aircraft will be named Deutschland before entering service from the airline's Munich hub. Airbus and Lufthansa still have to complete cabin installation, flight testing and final acceptance before the handover, which is expected this fall.

Lufthansa has ordered 15 A350-1000s for delivery through 2030. The aircraft is expected to assume missions currently flown by larger four-engine aircraft such as the Airbus A340-600, while offering significantly lower fuel burn and operating costs.

The aircraft will enter service with a four-class cabin accommodating 300 passengers. Lufthansa's A350-900 fleet currently features multiple cabin layouts. The most common configuration seats 293 passengers, although some aircraft carry more than 300. The A350-1000's layout places greater emphasis on premium cabins, including the airline's new Allegris First and Business Class products.

At 73.8 meters (242 ft) long, the A350-1000 is seven meters (23 ft) longer than the A350-900. Lufthansa currently operates 31 A350-900s.

The -1000 will become the airline's largest twin-engine aircraft until the arrival of the Boeing 777-9, for which Lufthansa is the launch customer. The first 777-9 deliveries are expected in 2027, although the aircraft's cabin layout has not yet been disclosed.

The centenary livery will also appear on several other aircraft across the fleet, including the Airbus A350-900, A380, Boeing 787-9, Boeing 747-8 and two Airbus A320neo family aircraft.
