Philippine Airlines (PAL) is expected to place a split widebody order for 15 Boeing 787-10s and nine Airbus A350-1000s, according to industry sources cited by Reuters. The agreement could be announced during this month's Farnborough Airshow.

If confirmed, the order would mark PAL's first Boeing aircraft purchase in nearly two decades and introduce the 787 to the airline's fleet for the first time.

The airline currently operates a mixed long-haul fleet consisting of 11 Airbus A330-300s, 10 Boeing 777-300ERs, two Airbus A350-900s and two A350-1000s. The additional A350-1000s would continue the carrier's fleet renewal program, while the Boeing 787-10 would add a new aircraft type to its widebody operation.

PAL took delivery of its first A350-1000 in December 2025 and is scheduled to receive nine of the type by 2027 under an order announced at the 2023 Paris Air Show. The aircraft are intended primarily for long-haul services to North America, gradually replacing older Boeing 777-300ERs.

The reported Boeing order would also open a competition between Rolls-Royce and GE Aerospace to supply engines for the 787-10 fleet, since the aircraft is offered with either Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 or GEnx powerplants.

Neither Airbus nor Boeing commented on the reported negotiations. Philippine Airlines also declined to discuss potential fleet acquisitions.

The airline has been preparing for another phase of long-haul growth. In June, PAL President Richard Nuttall said the carrier expected to announce new aircraft orders within months as it expands its international network and prepares to join the oneworld alliance.
