Indian regional airline Star Air appears to be linked to the planned lease of two used Embraer E190 jets owned by lessor TrueNoord, according to fleet data from Planespotters.

The aircraft involved are 12-year-old E190s previously operated by KLM Cityhopper and Eastern Airways. The jets, bearing serial numbers 19000659 and 19000661, are currently listed as stored and associated with future registrations in India.

Neither Star Air nor TrueNoord has publicly confirmed the transaction.

The move would mark a fleet expansion beyond the E175 aircraft currently operated by the Bengaluru-based carrier. Star Air today flies eight E175s, all leased, and appears to have phased out the ERJ-145 regional jets used when operations began in 2019.

The E190 offers significantly higher capacity than the E175 models in Star Air’s fleet. The airline currently operates E175s in both a 76-seat dual-class configuration with 12 business class and 64 economy seats, and an 88-seat single-class layout.

Star Air disclosed in late 2025 that it was evaluating its first direct Embraer aircraft order as part of plans to grow its fleet to 50 aircraft by 2030.

At the time, Managing Director Shrenik Ghodawat said the airline was studying additional Embraer models beyond the E175 already in service, including the E190-E2 and E195-E2.

Since then, Embraer has announced a partnership in India to study the establishment of a local assembly line for the E175. The project is tied to the Brazilian manufacturer’s efforts to benefit from Indian industrial incentives, but remains dependent on securing around 200 firm aircraft commitments in the country.

India remains one of the few major aviation markets where Embraer has yet to secure a commercial jet order from a local airline.
