Embraer has received Indian type certification for additional members of its E-Jets family, although the approval comes years after those aircraft entered service in other markets.
India's Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) certified the E190, E195 and E195-E2. The E175 had already been approved and is in service with regional carrier Star Air alongside the ERJ 145.

The certification comes as Star Air prepares to introduce the larger E190 into its fleet, a move that would make it the first operator of the type in India. The airline currently operates 11 Embraer regional jets.
The approval also clears the way for deliveries of the E195-E2, Embraer's largest commercial aircraft currently in production. However, the manufacturer has yet to secure an order for the E2 family from an Indian airline.

Type certification is a prerequisite for commercial operations but does not guarantee sales. Embraer obtained certification for the E190-E2 and E195-E2 in China several years ago, yet neither aircraft has entered service in the country.

The company has been expanding its presence in India beyond aircraft sales. Earlier this year, Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace signed an agreement to study the establishment of a final assembly line for the E175 under India's Regional Transport Aircraft program.
Embraer estimates that about 50 of its aircraft are currently in operation across India in the commercial, business aviation and defense sectors.
India remains a relatively small market for Embraer despite years of commercial efforts. Star Air is the country's only airline to operate the manufacturer's commercial aircraft.
