Porter Airlines has launched operations from the newly opened Montreal Metropolitan Airport (MET), adding a second airport in the Greater Montreal region and giving the carrier a new base closer to downtown than the city's main international gateway.
The first flights departed on June 15, linking the airport with Toronto Pearson, Toronto City, Vancouver and St. John's. Over the following week, Porter added service to seven more destinations across Canada, bringing the total to 11 routes.
Located in Longueuil on Montreal's South Shore, MET is a privately funded airport project intended to provide an alternative to Montreal-Trudeau International Airport. Airport operators expect passenger traffic to reach one million travelers during the first year of operation, with long-term capacity projected at four million passengers annually.
For Porter, the opening creates a new growth platform in one of Canada's largest air travel markets. The airline said it will nearly double its capacity in Greater Montreal this summer by combining operations at MET and Trudeau Airport.

The expansion comes as Porter continues one of the fastest fleet growth programs in North America. The carrier is currently the world's largest operator of Embraer's E2 family, with 53 E195-E2 aircraft already delivered from an order for 75 jets.
The E195-E2 has become central to Porter's strategy of competing against larger Canadian airlines on medium-haul routes. Configured with 132 seats, the aircraft allows the airline to operate transcontinental flights while maintaining its all-economy, no-middle-seat cabin layout.
Flights from MET will be operated by both the E195-E2 and Porter's De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprops, depending on route demand and distance.

The new airport also strengthens Porter's position in Quebec, where it has been expanding its network through a partnership with regional carrier Pascan Aviation. The agreement provides additional connectivity to smaller communities across Quebec and Atlantic Canada while feeding passengers into Porter's growing national network.
Founded as a niche operator centered on Toronto City Airport, Porter has transformed itself in recent years into a nationwide carrier. The arrival of the E195-E2 enabled the airline to move beyond its traditional eastern Canadian markets and launch flights to destinations across North America, including the western provinces and the United States.
