The first Eurofighter Typhoon built under Germany's Quadriga program has completed its maiden flight, Airbus confirmed on Wednesday. The company did not disclose the date of the flight but said the aircraft remains on schedule for delivery to the Luftwaffe later this year.

The aircraft introduces the Tranche 4 configuration, including the new E-Scan (ECRS Mk1) active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. Airbus says the new standard has been designed to accommodate future capability upgrades over the fighter's operational life.

Germany ordered 38 Quadriga Eurofighters to replace the Luftwaffe's oldest Tranche 1 aircraft. The program ensures production continues at Airbus' Manching final assembly line while renewing part of the German Air Force's fighter fleet.

Berlin later expanded its commitment with an additional order for 20 Eurofighters. Those aircraft will receive further upgrades, including new sensors and Saab's Arexis electronic warfare suite. Deliveries are expected to begin in 2031.

The Eurofighter will continue to serve alongside the Lockheed Martin F-35A, which Germany selected to replace part of its Panavia Tornado fleet. The Luftwaffe is expected to receive its first F-35As in 2026.
