Four crew members were injured when Delta Airlines flight 41 from Los Angeles to Sydney experienced brief turbulence shortly before landing at Sydney Airport on Friday morning.

According to Delta, the Airbus A350-900 was carrying 245 passengers and 15 crew members and landed safely at 06:48 local time on March 20. The airline spokesperson described the event as ‘brief turbulence.’

New South Wales Ambulance Service assessed five patients and transported three to hospital with minor injuries, including back pain and headaches. The ages of those affected ranged from 30 to 70.

The emergency call was received three minutes before landing, but no passengers sustained injuries during the incident.

Delta Airlines operates the Airbus A350 on several long-haul routes, including transpacific services.

The A350 fleet has been in operation with Delta since 2017 and consists of 40 aircraft of the A350-900 variant. The jets are configured with two cabin types, one with 40 seats in business class, 40 in premium economy and 195 in economy.

Other A350s have 32 seats in business class, 48 ​​in premium economy and 226 in regular economy.
