A Cessna 208B Grand Caravan operated by Peruvian carrier Aerodiana crashed during a sightseeing flight over the Nazca Lines on Aug. 1, killing all 13 people on board.
The aircraft, registered OB-2001-P, departed Pisco Airport at about 12:10 p.m. local time for a scenic flight over the UNESCO World Heritage site before returning to the same airport.

According to preliminary reports, the crew declared an emergency at about 1:00 p.m. The aircraft crashed near Pueblo Viejo, about 12 km from the Nazca Lines, and was destroyed by a post-impact fire.
Aerodiana said the flight was carrying 11 passengers and two pilots. Peruvian authorities reported that the passengers included tourists from Germany, Italy and Spain.
Peru’s Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission (CIAA) has opened an investigation into the accident.
Aerodiana said it would review its flight schedule in accordance with directives issued by the authorities following the accident.
The Nazca Lines are one of Peru’s best-known tourist attractions, drawing thousands of visitors each year who board small aircraft to view the ancient geoglyphs from the air.
The latest accident is not the first involving sightseeing flights over the archaeological site. In 2022, another tourist aircraft crashed near the Nazca Lines, killing all seven people aboard.
