Airbus has completed the first main deck cargo door for the A350F freighter on April 23, at its Illescas facility in Spain. The door has been shipped to the final assembly line in Toulouse, where it will be integrated into the fuselage of the first test aircraft for upcoming ground testing.

The A350F main deck cargo door measures 4.5 meters in width and 4.3 meters in height, making it the largest in the industry. It features composite materials and an electrical actuation system, designed to streamline loading and unloading operations.

Airbus is currently conducting ground tests on the A350F upper cargo hold in Toulouse, where the newly delivered door will be installed. The company is building two A350F aircraft for flight testing, scheduled from 2026 to 2027.

"This milestone demonstrates Spain's key role in the production of our commercial aircraft, including the A350F programme. Delivering the first main deck cargo door is the result of years of preparation and extensive teamwork, showcasing the deep expertise and technical maturity that Illescas plant has refined over decades in composite materials," said Ricardo Rojas, President of Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business in Spain.

The A350F program is advancing as the market adjusts to the end of Boeing 777F production, which will cease due to stricter ICAO CO₂ standards from 2027. Boeing is developing the 777-8F as a dedicated replacement, but the model trails the A350F in its entry-into-service schedule.

The A350F will carry up to 111 tonnes over 8,700 kilometers and is powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 engines. Airbus reports the type is 46 tonnes lighter than competing freighters and meets ICAO's 2027 emission standards.

At the end of March 2026, Airbus had received 101 orders for the A350F from 14 customers.
