AerCap has ordered 15 additional Boeing 787-9 Dreamliners, with options to substitute the aircraft for the larger 787-10, Boeing announced during the Farnborough International Airshow.
The deal will increase AerCap’s 787 portfolio to about 140 aircraft, keeping the Dublin-based company as the world’s largest owner of the Dreamliner family.

The substitution rights give AerCap flexibility to match airline requirements. While the 787-9 remains the most popular variant, the 787-10 offers higher capacity for routes where demand justifies a larger aircraft without requiring the longer range of the -9.
AerCap became the first aircraft lessor to take delivery of a 787 in 2013 and has steadily expanded its presence in the widebody leasing market as airlines have renewed fleets and waited for new aircraft deliveries.

The order comes as Boeing works to expand 787 production at its North Charleston, South Carolina, facility after years of manufacturing and quality issues disrupted deliveries.
The company is targeting an initial production rate of 10 aircraft per month, with plans to eventually return the Dreamliner program to 14 monthly deliveries.
