Uganda Airlines has confirmed an order for four Boeing 737-8s and four 787-9 Dreamliners, identifying the passenger aircraft covered by an agreement announced last month.
Boeing announced the order on Tuesday at the Farnborough International Airshow. The aircraft are part of a fleet expansion plan unveiled by the state-owned airline in June, when it disclosed a deal for 10 Boeing aircraft but did not identify the passenger models involved.
“The aircraft will strengthen our ability to connect Uganda more efficiently to regional, continental and international markets,” Uganda Airlines CEO Ato Girma Wake said.
The airline currently operates two Airbus A330-800s, one Boeing 737-800 and four CRJ900 regional jets. It is one of only a handful of operators of the A330-800, the least successful member of Airbus’ A330neo family. One of its two widebody aircraft has remained out of service for months because of technical issues.
The 737-8s will serve regional routes within Africa as well as destinations in the Middle East and India, while the 787-9s will support long-haul services to Europe, Asia and the Middle East.

Uganda Airlines has faced repeated operational disruptions this year because of aircraft shortages. Earlier this year, the carrier leased a Boeing 787 from Ethiopian Airlines after technical problems affected part of its long-haul fleet.
