Somon Air has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX 8, becoming the first airline in Tajikistan to operate the latest-generation narrowbody.
The aircraft is a 737-8 leased from Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) and is the first of two MAX jets scheduled for delivery under the agreement.

The addition marks the beginning of Somon Air's fleet renewal plan. The airline currently operates four Boeing 737-800s, two 737-900ERs and one 787-8 Dreamliner, all from its hub at Dushanbe International Airport.
According to the airline, the 737-8 will be deployed on short- and medium-haul routes across Central Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. The aircraft's additional range is also expected to allow future flights to London, Beijing and Guangzhou.
Last year, Somon Air announced plans to acquire up to 14 Boeing aircraft, including 737 MAX and 787 Dreamliner models, to support future expansion.
The airline launched operations in 2008 and has maintained an all-Boeing fleet throughout its history. It currently serves 29 destinations across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
