Riyadh Air has received its first two Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft, the initial delivery from the airline’s order for up to 72 jets. The aircraft arrived in Riyadh as the carrier prepares to begin commercial operations with newly built aircraft.

The airline plans to introduce the first Boeing 787-9 from its direct order on flights between Riyadh and London Heathrow starting July 1, 2026. This follows a provisional operation that began in October 2025 using a single leased 787-9, registered HZ-RXX, previously operated by Oman Air and leased from Avolon.

The newly delivered Riyadh Air aircraft are configured with four first class suites, 24 business class seats, 39 premium economy seats and 223 economy seats.

Riyadh Air was established in 2023 by Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The airline aims to connect Saudi Arabia to regional and long-haul markets, including Europe, Asia, Africa, and North America.

The delivery of the first two Dreamliners is part of Saudi Arabia’s aviation plan, which targets attracting 150 million visitors and serving 330 million passengers annually by 2030. Riyadh Air’s fleet plan includes up to 72 Boeing 787s, and the airline has also placed orders for 60 Airbus A321neo and 25 Airbus A350-1000 aircraft.

Riyadh Air CEO Tony Douglas said, “The arrival of our first aircraft is a proud moment for everyone at Riyadh Air and for Saudi aviation.” Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO Stephanie Pope said, “The 787 Dreamliner will provide Riyadh Air with the efficiency and flexibility needed to serve its planned network.”

Riyadh Air plans to serve more than 100 destinations by 2030, with early 787 flights scheduled for cities including London, Cairo, and Jeddah. The airline is building its long-haul fleet primarily from new aircraft orders. Since its launch, Riyadh Air has focused on preparing its permanent fleet, training crews, and developing its onboard product.
