A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner suffered a nose landing gear collapse while parked at a gate at Frankfurt Airport on June 4, forcing the cancellation of a scheduled flight to Los Angeles.
The aircraft involved was D-ABPQ, named Herne and delivered to Lufthansa in January 2026. According to preliminary information, the incident occurred while the aircraft was being prepared for flight LH450 to Los Angeles.

Video footage circulating on social media shows the Dreamliner parked at the gate with catering, loading and ground service vehicles positioned around the aircraft when the nose gear apparently retracted unexpectedly. The aircraft's nose subsequently dropped onto the apron while airport personnel were working nearby.

The affected aircraft is one of Lufthansa's newest widebody jets. Registered D-ABPQ, it was built in 2025, completed its first flight in April that year and entered commercial service with the German carrier in February 2026.
The incident drew comparisons with an event involving a British Airways Boeing 787-8 at London Heathrow Airport in June 2021. In that case, the aircraft's nose gear collapsed while the jet was being prepared for departure, causing the forward fuselage to strike the ground.

It remains unclear what caused the Frankfurt occurrence. Aviation investigators and Lufthansa's technical teams are expected to examine the aircraft and determine whether the collapse resulted from a mechanical failure, maintenance activity or another factor.
The Boeing 787 family has accumulated millions of flight hours since entering service in 2011, and nose gear collapses involving the type remain rare. The event nevertheless resulted in the immediate withdrawal of the aircraft from service pending inspection and recovery operations.
