Embraer has showcased its A-29 Super Tucano to the Honduran Air Force (FAH) during a visit to Tegucigalpa, revelead the service in a social media post.
The company's demonstration aircraft, registration PT-ZTV, arrived at Tocontín Air Base on May 28 during a supposed regional tour to present the A-29 to potential customers.
The visit carries particular significance for Honduras, which became the first export customer of the original EMB-312 Tucano in the 1980s. The FAH received 12 aircraft between 1984 and 1986, becoming the launch international operator of Embraer's turboprop trainer.
The Honduran Air Force recalled that milestone and described the arrival of the Super Tucano as the beginning of a potential strategic partnership with Embraer.

According to the FAH, the development of that relationship could enhance the service's capabilities in airspace control and defense missions. The force also linked the visit to its ongoing modernization plans.

The appearance of the A-29 comes just days after the FAH returned a T-27 Tucano to flight status following an extensive restoration effort. The aircraft completed a test flight on May 23 after spending 13 years grounded and is expected to support counter-narcotics and airspace surveillance missions.
Neither Embraer nor the Honduran government has announced a procurement program for the A-29. However, the manufacturer's visit suggests that discussions are underway as Honduras assesses future requirements for missions currently performed by its aging fleet of T-27 Tucanos, Cessna A-37 Dragonfly attack aircraft and Northrop F-5E/F Tiger II fighters.
The A-29 recently secured new contracts in Latin America, including orders from Uruguay, Paraguay, and Panama. Embraer also expanded the model's presence in other regions, in addition to launching the A-29N variant, aligned with NATO requirements and chosen by Portugal.
