Emirates Airline has signed an agreement with GE Aerospace to expand its engine repair and maintenance capabilities in Dubai, covering the GE90 engines used by its Boeing 777 fleet and the GP7200 engines installed on part of its Airbus A380 aircraft.

The agreement includes technical assistance and training services aimed at developing piece-part component repair capabilities at the Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre (EEMC).

According to Emirates, GE Aerospace will help establish repair lines for engine components and provide technical consultancy and knowledge transfer to local teams.

“We are delighted to take a strategic step in upscaling our engine repair capabilities by investing in infrastructure and partnering with GE Aerospace to support our vision for world-class engine repairs and maintenance,” said Adel Al Redha, Emirates’ deputy president and chief operating officer.

The partnership is tied to Emirates’ US$300 million expansion project for its engine maintenance infrastructure in Dubai.

Mohamed Ali, president and CEO of Commercial Engines & Services at GE Aerospace, described Emirates as “a valued customer and an important partner,” adding that the agreement will help strengthen long-term engine maintenance capabilities in the UAE aviation sector.

Emirates operates one of the world’s largest widebody fleets, currently composed of 19 Airbus A350-900s, 116 Airbus A380s, 10 Boeing 777-200LRs, 119 Boeing 777-300ERs and 15 Boeing 777F freighters.

The GE90 exclusively powers the Boeing 777-300ER, while the GP7200 is one of the two engine options offered for the Airbus A380 alongside the Rolls-Royce Trent 900.

The Emirates Engine Maintenance Centre was established in 2014 and performs repair and maintenance work for engines used across the airline’s fleet.
