Embraer has selected Indian company Bharat Forge as a supplier of forged raw materials months after the Brazilian manufacturer began discussions with potential local companies that could join its supply chain.

Under the contract announced on May 11, Bharat Forge will provide forged products for Embraer’s global supply chain as the aerospace company seeks to diversify suppliers and reduce dependence on a more concentrated industrial base.

The agreement is part of Embraer’s push to increase its presence in India, a market viewed by the company as one of the world’s largest future growth opportunities for commercial aviation.

“In line with our supply chain diversification strategy, we view India as a major opportunity,” said Roberto Chaves, Embraer’s executive vice president of global procurement and supply chain.

Bharat Forge, based in Pune, supplies components for multiple industrial sectors including aerospace, defense and automotive applications.

The supplier agreement follows a memorandum of understanding signed earlier this year between Embraer and India’s Adani Group to study the creation of a final assembly line for E175 regional jets in the country.

Embraer chief executive Francisco Gomes Neto previously said the project would depend on securing firm commitments for at least 200 aircraft from Indian customers before any investment decision is made.

According to the company, Indian production of the E175 could begin as early as 2028 if sufficient orders are secured by the end of 2026.

Embraer currently manufactures its commercial aircraft exclusively in Brazil.

The company has been increasing contacts with Indian aerospace companies and government officials as it seeks to establish a stronger industrial presence in a market expected to require hundreds of regional and narrowbody aircraft over the coming decades.

India remains one of the few major aviation markets where Embraer has yet to secure a significant commercial jet order from a local airline.
