Embraer announced on Sunday that it decided to place employees who cannot work remotely on paid leave until March 31 in Brazil. The manufacturer says it will maintain only essential activities for its operation during this period.
Employees who are already in the home office will continue to work in this way, said the company, which added that it is evaluating the situation of its units in other countries.
According to Embraer, in the coming days “will analyze the situation and, together with local government and union representatives, make the most adequate decision to protect its employees from the coronavirus contagion and, at the same time, protect its business, in a manner in which all parties will suffer the least impact possible.”
2019 results release
Like other aircraft manufacturers, Embraer has been seriously affected by the brutal reduction in air passenger traffic worldwide. Its customers have requested the postponement of deliveries of new planes in the face of falling demand and the lack of prospects for returning to normal.
The crisis caused by the pandemic of the coronavirus (Covid-19) hit the Brazilian company at a critical moment when its sales and production are falling. Last year, for example, only 89 commercial jets were delivered, the worst result in recent years.
Its current backlog, with 338 commercial aircraft ordered, dropped 30 units compared to 2018. In addition, the joint venture with Boeing, which agreed to pay $ 4.2 billion for the commercial jet unit, is at risk.
