Lufthansa operated its first Airbus A380 equipped with new business class seats on April 23, with D-AIMC 'Mike-Charly' departing Munich as flight LH452 to Los Angeles.
The retrofit introduces 68 Thompson business class seats on the upper deck, each with direct aisle access, 58 cm width, and a bed length of at least two meters.
An upgraded in-flight entertainment system features an 18-inch Panasonic screen, Bluetooth headphone compatibility, 3D moving map, cinema-quality sound, and flight cameras in all cabins.
Lufthansa completed the retrofit of the first A380 in just under twelve weeks, with work on the next aircraft, D-AIMH 'Mike-Hotel', starting immediately. The program covers all eight A380s, scheduled for completion by mid-2027.
The retrofit and maintenance program began in early February 2026 at Elbe Flugzeugwerke in Dresden, where two A380s were present on April 21. Routine maintenance accompanies the cabin modernization on each airframe.
