KLM plans to introduce its first Airbus A350-900 into commercial service on flights between Amsterdam and Toronto, making the Canadian city the launch destination for the airline's newest widebody.
According to the airline's preliminary schedule, the A350 will begin operating on Sept. 27, initially serving flight KL691/692 five times per week through late November. The aircraft will feature 34 Business Class seats, 26 Premium Comfort seats and 271 Economy seats.

KLM expects to receive its first A350-900 at the end of August. The aircraft will be named The Night Watch, after Rembrandt's famous painting, introducing a new naming theme for the airline's A350 fleet based on Dutch works of art.
Passengers booked in Business Class, however, may have to wait a little longer to experience the new cabin. KLM said certification of the World Business Class seats has been delayed following a revised interpretation of regulatory requirements by aviation authorities. As a result, the first two A350s will enter service without the new Business Class cabin available.

The airline said the seat manufacturer is working to complete the certification process as quickly as possible. Premium Comfort and Economy Class will be available from the aircraft's entry into service.
The A350 forms part of KLM's long-term fleet renewal program, which also includes Airbus A321neo aircraft for European routes, Embraer E195-E2 regional jets and additional Boeing 787s for intercontinental services. Over the coming years, the airline plans to invest €7 billion in renewing its fleet.
