Gol to fly between Brazil and Peru

New flight to debut in December and will be operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8, currently out of service

The airline Gol will start flying daily on the route between Sao Paulo, Brazil, and Lima, the capital of Peru. The flight, which is the company’s 15th international destination, will begin on December 12.

We are very proud of the inclusion of Lima in our network and we remain focused on the growth of our international market. Peru is a strategic destination for the company, as well as being one of the most important tourist centers in South America,” says Celso Ferrer, Gol’s vice president of operations.

According to Gol, the route will have a flight time of about 5 hours and 20 minutes, departing from Sao Paulo at 8:55 p.m. and arriving in Peru at 12:15 local time. The return flight departs from Lima at 1h22 and arrives at Guarulhos Airport at 8:25 am. Tickets will be available for purchase as of May 15, the company said.

737 MAX back

The São Paulo-Lima route will be operated by 737 MAX 8 jets, aircraft that have remained unable to fly around the world since March. The Boeing aircraft is undergoing testing on flight control software that is suspected to have been the cause of the fall of Ethiopian Airlines and Lion Air aircraft.

Although there is still no forecast for the return of the 737 MAX, several airlines that operate the model already estimate to rely on it only from August.

Gol would also be worried about the negative image the plane had been exposed in recent weeks and decided to remove the “MAX” designation from its fuselage, calling them only “737-8”.
