Finnair has signed an agreement with Embraer for up to 46 E195-E2 aircraft, including 18 firm orders, 16 options and 12 purchase rights, in a move to replace its fleet of first-generation E190 jets.

In addition, the company secured a spare parts and maintenance service package for the PW1900G engine from Pratt & Whitney to ensure turbofan availability, which has been critical for some operators.

The Finnish carrier operates 12 E190s that have been in service since 2006. The aircraft recently underwent a cabin refurbishment, but are now set to be phased out as part of a fleet renewal plan focused on regional and short-haul routes.

Deliveries of the E195-E2 are scheduled to begin in the second half of 2027, with three jets to be delivered this year, six in 2028 and another six in 2029. They will be operated by regional subsidiary Norra.

The aircraft will be configured with 134 seats, slightly below the 136-seat layouts adopted by several other operators of the type.

The E195-E2 is the largest member of Embraer’s E2 family and will take over missions currently performed by the E190, offering higher capacity and improved fuel efficiency. Embraer says the aircraft consumes significantly less fuel than earlier-generation models, reflecting advances in engines and aerodynamics.

“This is one of the largest investments in Finnair’s 102-year-old history,” said CEO Turkka Kuusisto, adding that the aircraft will be used to expand the airline’s European network and improve operational efficiency.

Finnair also announced a plan to replace its older Airbus A319 and A320 jets with up to 12 second-hand A320/A321ceo to be sourced from the market.

The new order comes roughly eight months after Scandinavian carrier SAS placed an order for 45 E195-E2 aircraft, highlighting renewed demand for the type among European airlines seeking to modernize regional fleets. The aircraft will be included in Embraer’s backlog for the first quarter of 2026.
