Emirates has started construction of a new $5.1 billion engineering complex at Dubai South that is set to become one of the world’s largest aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities.
The project will occupy about 1.1 million square meters near Al Maktoum International Airport and is expected to be completed by mid-2030.
According to Emirates, the facility will be capable of servicing up to 28 widebody aircraft simultaneously through a large hangar complex dedicated to heavy maintenance operations.
The airline also said the site will include two aircraft paint hangars, 77,000 square meters of workshop space and 380,000 square meters dedicated to storage and logistics operations.

Among the planned infrastructure is a 285-meter-wide free-span hangar, which Emirates described as the largest of its kind, as well as what it called the world’s largest dedicated landing gear workshop.

The project will initially support heavy maintenance work and overflow demand from Emirates Engineering’s current facilities at Dubai International Airport.
China Railway Construction Corporation was selected to build the complex while French engineering consultancy Artelia will oversee the project.
Emirates said the new facility will include 50,000 square meters of office space and 15,000 square meters dedicated to training activities for engineering personnel.
The airline added that the complex is designed to achieve LEED Platinum environmental certification and will include rooftop solar panels as part of its energy infrastructure.
