Colombia has ordered two Embraer KC-390 Millennium multi-role transport aircraft, becoming the first Latin American customer outside Brazil to select the type.
The contract, announced on Aug. 4, also includes mission equipment, logistics support and an industrial cooperation package. Embraer did not disclose its value or a delivery schedule.

The Colombian Air and Space Force (FAC) plans to use the KC-390 for tactical airlift, humanitarian relief, medical evacuation, aerial refueling and cargo and troop transport missions. The aircraft will also be compatible with the Saab Gripen E fighters recently acquired by Colombia.
The selection follows several years of evaluation during which the KC-390 competed to replace part of Colombia's aging tactical transport fleet. Interest in the Brazilian aircraft intensified earlier this year after a Colombian Air Force C-130H Hercules crashed during a training mission, killing everyone on board and accelerating discussions about fleet renewal
The KC-390 can carry up to 26 tonnes of payload and is capable of operating from unprepared runways. When equipped with aerial refueling equipment, it can serve as both a tanker and a receiver.
Embraer said Colombia is the 13th country to select the KC-390. The total includes Lithuania, which chose the aircraft in 2025 but later postponed a contract decision until after 2030.
