American Airlines said it expects to resume nonstop flights between Miami and Caracas as soon as April 30, subject to final government approvals and completion of operational preparations.

The airline plans to operate a daily service using Embraer 175 aircraft flown by Envoy, its wholly owned regional subsidiary.

American said it continues to work with authorities in both the United States and Venezuela as part of the process to restart operations, which have been suspended since 2019.

The carrier is the first to announce a timeline for restoring air links between the two countries.

American has a long presence in the Venezuelan market, having started operations there in 1987 and becoming the largest U.S. airline in the country before suspending service.

The airline said the Miami hub will serve as the gateway for the route, which is expected to reconnect traffic flows between the U.S. and Venezuela after more than six years.
