Royal Brunei Air Force receives its first two Airbus C295MW

Transport aircraft were ordered by the Southeast Asian country in 2022 and will replace a single CN235 in service

The small Royal Brunei Air Force (RBAirF), a country located in Southeast Asia, received on January 24 the first two C295MW aircraft from Airbus, from an order for four turboprops.

The Brunei Ministry of Defense had signed a contract with Airbus in December 2022 in order to expand the transport capacity of the RBAirF, which currently has only a single CN235 turboprop.

Predecessor of the C295, the CN2235 has been in service since 1997 and was divided into transport, humanitarian assistance, medical evacuations and search and rescue missions, a role that will be assumed by the new planes.

The two aircraft were received at a ceremony attended by His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni and other dignitaries. (Royal Brunei Air Force)

The two C295s left the Airbus facility in Seville, Spain, on January 18 and made several stops to reach Brunei, which has a small territory on the island of Borneo.

The Royal Brunei Air Force operates a very small fleet of aircraft that includes four Pilatus PC-7 turboprops and Bell 214 and 206 helicopters.

The air force’s most numerous aircraft is, however, the Sikorsky S-70 helicopter, of which there are 12 active units.
