The Royal Air Force (RAF) has deployed four Eurofighter Typhoon fighters from RAF Coningsby to Qatar to reinforce the United Kingdom’s air presence in the Middle East.

The aircraft will join RAF Typhoons already operating in the region and will work alongside personnel from No. 12 Squadron and Qatar’s Typhoon unit. From Qatar, the fighters are expected to support air defense activities linked to Gulf partners, including Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

According to the RAF, the additional aircraft strengthen the UK’s ability to conduct air operations and support regional security at a time of rising tensions across the Middle East.

The Typhoon is the RAF’s primary multi-role combat aircraft, capable of air defense, air policing and precision strike missions.

The deployment comes as the United Kingdom adjusts its military posture following the recent escalation between Iran, Israel and the United States. American forces have carried out strikes against Iranian targets, but the British government has not taken part in offensive operations.

That decision has created political friction with Washington. U.S. President Donald Trump criticized Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer over the weekend for not committing British naval forces earlier in the crisis.

In a message posted on his Truth Social platform, Trump mocked reports that the United Kingdom was considering deploying aircraft carriers to the region, writing that Britain was “finally giving serious thought” to sending them but adding that such support would come too late.

At the same time, the Royal Navy’s aircraft carrier HMS Prince of Wales has been placed on advanced readiness in Portsmouth. defense sources said the vessel has been ordered to prepare to sail within five days, significantly reducing the previous notice period of 14 days.

The move has raised speculation that the carrier could be deployed to the Mediterranean or the Middle East if the security situation worsens.

British officials have emphasized that the UK has already strengthened its defensive posture in the region in recent months, including the deployment of additional personnel to support air defense operations at British bases in Cyprus and Qatar.

Around 400 extra personnel have reportedly been sent to Cyprus in recent weeks as part of those measures.

The arrival of additional U.S. B-1B Lancer bombers at RAF Fairford in England also highlights the growing military activity linked to the conflict, with the base once again serving as a forward operating location for American long-range strike aircraft.
