Greece’s Aegean Airlines has added eight more A321neo jets to its order book, Airbus has revealed.

With the new aircraft, the largest Greek carrier reaches a total of 60 firm orders, of which 37 have already been delivered.

In total, Aegean currently operates 66 jets from the A320 family, 34 of which are from the Neo series. These are 28 A320ceos, four A321ceos, 20 A320neos and 14 A321neos.

“The expansion of our investment plan with the additional order of eight Airbus A321neo aircraft is essential for achieving our growth objectives and further enhancing the competitiveness of our operations. It is also clear that we have a strong preference for the larger-capacity and extended-range version offered by the A321neo type, which will soon represent two-thirds of our Airbus fleet,” said the company’s CEO, Dimitris Gerogiannis.

“We are delighted that Aegean has once again chosen the fuel-efficient A321neo. This decision underscores Aegean’s commitment to operational excellence and enhancing the passenger experience,” added Benoit de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales of the Commercial Aircraft business.

Neither Airbus nor Aegean have revealed when the aircraft will be delivered. The European planemaker is facing a large backlog amid difficulties in expanding the production rate at its factories.

The delays mean that new assembly line slots will not become available for several years.
