First KC-390 of the Portuguese Air Force is flying for its official delivery

Embraer tactical transport aircraft took off from Gaviao Peixoto on Tuesday night and was on Sal Island on October 18

The Portuguese Air Force (FAP) is expected to officially take delivery of its first KC-390 Millennium on Thursday. The Embraer aircraft is in transit from Brazil, where it took off on Tuesday.

The multi-role jet, registration number 26091, is the first to be exported by the Brazilian manufacturer and is part of an order for five aircraft that will replace the Portuguese C-130 Hercules.

The FAP aircraft, however, has already been to Portugal on other occasions. Still with the provisional registration PT-ZDK, the KC-390 visited some air bases for presentations and also to receive NATO standard equipment.

The first Portuguese KC-390 was also presented at the Paris Air Show, in June, where it was placed alongside a Brazilian Air Force example.

The delivery flight of KC-390 26091 departed from Embraer’s facilities in Gavião Peixoto and made a technical stop in Recife and Espargos, on Sal Island, where it was on Wednesday.
