First ITA Airways A330neo makes maiden flight

Airbus widebody will enter service on the Italian carrier from June

ITA Airways is very close to takes delivery of its first A330-900neo. On Thursday, April 27, the aircraft that will receive registration EI-HJN completed its maiden flight from Toulouse Airport, Airbus headquarters.

The aircraft should be delivered in the coming weeks and begin commercial flights in June to destinations such as New York, Miami, São Paulo and Tokyo.

ITA Airways has an initial order for 10 A330neo, but has also closed widebody leasing contracts. According to the AIB Flights, there are two other A330-900neo in the advanced stages of assembly.

On 9 April, the future EI-HJR was seen at Toulouse being routed for the primer. Shortly before, on March 23, the A330 EI-HJO (MSN 2038) appeared only without the engines.

Italian carrier is close to having part of its shares acquired by Lufthansa (ITA)

The Italian carrier will configure the aircraft with three classes of service and a total of 291 seats – 30 in business, 24 in premium economy and 237 in economy.

Deal with Lufthansa postponed

While renewing its fleet, ITA expects to have a good part of its shares taken over by Lufthansa.

The German group has preference in negotiating with the Italian government, however, ITA’s 2022 financial result had high losses, which made the two sides negotiate the value for the company again.

Lufthansa is expected to acquire 40% of ITA Airways for an amount of around 200 million euros.
