Ethiopian Airlines confirmed a firm order for six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft on April 20, in Washington, finalizing options from its 2023 commitment.

The airline intends to deploy the additional 787-9s to boost intercontinental routes from Addis Ababa and increase cargo capacity in response to growing demand for long-haul travel. "Converting the options of six Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner airplanes into a firm order is truly a proud moment for us," said Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO Mesfin Tasew.

Ethiopian Airlines currently operates Africa's largest Dreamliner fleet, comprising 20 787-8 and 10 787-9 aircraft, serving routes across Europe, Asia, North America, and intra-African destinations. Last year, the carrier had placed a firm order for nine 787s.
