Brazil’s Defense Minister José Múcio Monteiro said on Monday he expects to travel abroad in June to finalize new export contracts for the Embraer C-390 Millennium, although he did not disclose which countries are close to placing orders.
Speaking to reporters during a Brazilian Navy event, Múcio said additional sales announcements could come soon.
“In June, I should make a trip to close more contracts,” he said. “When someone buys a KC-390, they buy two and tell their neighbor it is great.”
Múcio also said 37 aircraft had already been sold to European countries, but that figure appears to include agreements that have not been publicly detailed.
Embraer has officially announced orders from Portugal, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, the Czech Republic, Sweden and Slovakia, totaling 26 aircraft. Lithuania also selected the C-390 but recently postponed its acquisition plans until 2030 while it upgrades its fleet of Alenia C-27J Spartan aircraft.
Other countries that have shown interest in the aircraft include Morocco, United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Finland, Colombia, Greece and South Africa, among others.
The aircraft is also competing in the Indian Air Force’s Medium Transport Aircraft (MTA) program, which could lead to orders for up to 60 aircraft, although the process remains underway.
The KC-390 can carry up to 26 metric tons of cargo and can also perform aerial refueling, medical evacuation, firefighting and troop transport missions.
Embraer currently has 50 firm orders for the aircraft, including 19 for the Brazilian Air Force.
