Air Senegal has announced a commitment to acquire nine Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, representing its largest single fleet acquisition to date.

This agreement represents the airline’s first order from Boeing since 2004 and a significant change to its fleet, which currently consists of two Airbus A330-900s, one A321, and one ATR 72 turboprop.

The introduction of the 737-8 is expected to allow Air Senegal to broaden its network in Europe and initiate new routes from Dakar to the Middle East and the Americas.

The 737-8 variant accommodates up to 178 passengers in a two-class configuration and offers a maximum range of 3,500 nautical miles (6,480 km).

Boeing states that the aircraft delivers a 20% reduction in fuel use and emissions, along with a 50% smaller noise footprint compared to the models it will replace.

According to Boeing’s 2025 commercial market outlook, African airlines are forecast to require more than 1,200 new aircraft over the next twenty years, pointing to ongoing fleet modernization across the continent.
