Saab unveils the first of two 340 AEW turboprops to the Polish Air Force

Aircraft previously operated in the UAE military and were returned to the manufacturer in 2020

Saab held a presentation ceremony of the first Saab 340 Airborne Early Warning (AEW) aircraft for the Polish Air Force, in Linköping on 29 September.

The Polish armed forces acquired two turboprops equipped with the Erieye AEW/AEW&C system in July.

The aircraft flew until 2020 in the United Arab Emirates, where they were replaced by GlobalEye jets, Global 6000 executive models converted into a radar plane with an Erieye system from Saab.

In Poland, the two Saab 340s will be used to reinforce territorial integrity and national security.

The aircraft was operated by United Arab Emirates Armed Forces until 2020 (Saab)

“We are honored to provide this important capability to Poland and proud to be quickly progressing towards the delivery of this airborne early warning system to the Polish Armed Forces,” says Carl-Johan Bergholm, head of Saab’s business area Surveillance.

Saab, however, has not revealed when the first turboprop will be shipped to Poland.
